Blue Heathens was a band led by Spanish trumpeter Angel Calvo Pérez that recreated the spontaneous spirit of early jazz. Founded in April 2013, they quickly earned acclaim for their solid musicianship and captivating live performances. Their sound was a unique exploration of the New Orleans and Chicago jazz vibes from the 1920s and 1930s, allowing for lots of collective improvisation and some surprising live arrangements. Their repertoire featured a mix of original compositions and covers.

Their style was irresistibly engaging, drawing audiences of all ages into a world of rhythmic joy and dance. It was quite a big band, since its core line-up consisted of vocals, trumpet, clarinet/sax, trombone, guitar, drums, and sousaphone double bass. The band's legacy includes two albums, "Blue Heathens" (2015) and "The Heat" (2017), each a testament to their diverse and vibrant musical prowess.

Though the curtain has fallen on this once-vibrant ensemble, its impact on Angel´s life remains timeless. This band served as his creative canvas, where he composed his first tunes, orchestrated his first harmonies, recorded his first albums and learned valuable lessons in leadership and management. The original numbers composed for this band are still played by Fazant and Table for Three.
