OORLOGSVENSTERS
This beautiful project was led by folk singer and songwriter Marc Hauman, who built a window into the First World War through gripping verses, images, and melodies. His songs were about small stories that together form a large, emotional narrative. The concert not only unlocked WWI but also questions the dubious activities prevalent wherever war rages.
In August 1914, the Prussian spike helmets elegantly waltzed into Belgium, and "Oorlogsvensters" follows the turmoil that fiercely swept westward until it reached a standstill in the drowned West Flanders plains along the Yser. In the song tradition of Wannes Van de Velde, singer Hauman stood before a group of top musicians who performed the beautiful arrangements of composer Wouter Vandenabeele.
